These snack cakes are great for vendor events, pop-up events, parties, and orders for people who do not want to order a full custom cake. There are many creative and flavor options for the snack cakes! In this tutorial, I will show you how to make snack cakes while doing a Barbie theme. I recently did these snack cakes for a Barbie pop-up. So much fun!

What are snack cakes?

The snack cakes are essentially baked cake into these foil-lined cake pans. You may have seen these foil-lined pans at the grocery stores but with food to be put in the oven. You make the batter and pour it into these foil-lined cake pans and bake them for 20 minutes or so, then add some buttercream on the top, and decorate as you wish.

How to make Snack Cakes Step by Step

Materials Needed

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: Make the batter according to the recipe you are using. I am using this vanilla cake recipe.

Step 2: Pour the batter and fill the pan halfway.

Step 2: Bake at 350 degrees (F) for approximately 20-25 minutes. You really have to keep an eye on the pans because the baking time can vary for every recipe. The cake is ready if the toothpick is clean with a few crumbs.

Piping Buttercream

Step 3: Make your favorite buttercream. Fill a piping bag with a 2A piping bag and buttercream. Another option is to use an offset spatula and scoop the buttercream on the cake. I like using a piping bag because it is more cleaner and gives me a uniform coat of buttercream.

Smoothing Buttercream

Step 4: Start smoothing the buttercream with a cake scraper with a straight edge.

Adding Edible Image

Step 5: Apply the edible image to the cake. I used this SVG file I purchased from Etsy. There are more SVGs on Etsy for your liking!

Piping Border

Step 6: Pipe with a 4B tip to create a border around the cake. Stay within the pan (about 1/2 inch from the pan liner) because the lid will smush the border once it is put on.

Adding Sprinkles

Step 7: Sprinkle on some sprinkles.

Step 8: Put the lid on the cake pan, carefully to not smush the border. It is ok to have buttercream to spread under the lid corners.

Step 9: Repeat as desired with your own colors, images, and buttercream textures!
