March’s Cake Decorator Spotlight

Hi everyone! I am delighted to be featuring Whitney Sangprasit, @wonderfulwhittycakes from Southern California, for March’s Cake Decorator Spotlight. Whitney creates some amazing whimsical and timeless cakes using tons of contrast and textures and bringing happiness to people’s screens! Just take a look at her IG and you will see what I am talking about.🤩 Read on to learn more about Whitney, and check out some of her favorite cakes.
How did your cake decorating journey begin?
My cake decorating journey began with trying to make my 2 little girls’ birthday cakes. I started trying to create what they wanted, and it just snowballed from there. I watched and learned all I could and became absolutely obsessed with trying to see what I could accomplish next.
What are your go-to tools when designing a cake?
Some must-haves for me, are a good quality metal cake scraper, and a good turntable. I love textured and stripe combs as well.
How would you describe your cake style?
Definitely colorful, cute, and fun, with some whimsy mixed in. I love bright happy colors, preferably pastels.
Which are your favorite cake trends?
Right now, the cartoon/comic cakes are a huge trend that I am really loving. I also love the arch cakes, cake top forward cakes, heart cakes, and good lambeth style cakes. And, of course stripes!
Where do you find your inspiration from?
I find inspiration almost everywhere. Talented creators in the community, wallpapers, gift wrap, party decor, clothing patterns, fun artwork, pretty much anything!
What are things you have learned when adapting to videos on Instagram?
I’ve learned that good lighting and a good scene can make all the difference. I’m definitely still learning and improving that part of my work, but having a good video editing app, a mount or tripod, and some good backdrops makes a huge difference in the quality of your videos.
What advice would you give someone who wants to become a content creator?
First and foremost, I would say, “Love what you do/create” first. You have to truly love what you do and what you share in order to resonate with others.
For 2023, what do you hope to accomplish for your content?
I really hope to create the things that make me happy and that I love most. I hope to set more realistic goals for myself regarding time management and how much I can accomplish in a week, but also trying to keep improving in all the areas that I can. I hope to make things that bring a tiny bit of color and joy into someone’s day.
What is your favorite cake flavor?
It will always be chocolate. A good dark chocolate cake, paired with either raspberry or strawberry, is my favorite.
How do you like to unwind after a long day?
Most times, all I need is my couch, a warm fuzzy blanket, a good snack, and a favorite TV show.
My Favorite Cakes
Blue Stenciled Daisy Cake

A daisy stencil was used for this Spring cake!
Pastel Disco Party

I’m so happy to be able to finally share this fun cake I made for @cakemasters magazine! The month theme was “One Tier Wonders.” I decided a Pastel Disco Party would be the perfect “me” way to celebrate the start of 2022. Check out my pretty groovy tutorial in the January 2022 issue.
Easter Bunny Striped Cake

I decided to go to my favorite stripes and piping, with some cute choco bunnies and polka dot “bubbles” for this Easter Bunny cake.
Pastel Rainbow Cake

I was so happy and fortunate to make this happy sweet cake for my newest niece who turned one. It’s awesome to be a small tiny part of such a sweet milestone.
Beach Striped Cake

All the beachy ocean vibes with this marbled stripe cake. I’m thinking of making more marbled stripes because they turned out so pretty.
Summer Floral Cake

I was inspired by a fun summer party table scape and balloon garland. I used candy melts to make my balloons and stuffed my garland full of bright summery blooms.
Sprinkle Stripe Cake

This color palette definitely speaks to me, so I was excited to create something. All my favorite things: stripes, fun toppers, beautiful sprinkles that match perfectly, and swirly, fluffy piping.
Summer Fruit Inspired Cake

This fun mix of sugar fruit shapes inspired this cake! Click here to see how this cake was put together.
Scoops of Sunshine Ice Cream Cake

Lots of sunshine in this cake! Click here to check out how this cake was decorated.
Milkshake Inspired Cake

This cake was inspired by vanilla milkshake with cherries, all white with the classic rainbow sprinkles.
